Last night, I took over the kitchen to can up the applesauce. Well, I actually started at noon, but it took me until nine before I was finally finished.
I only got about half the apples peeled - if I even hit the halfway point!
But I did get three pans of applesauce cooking - since they cook down quite a bit, it gave me ten pints and one half-pint. I learned my lesson long ago to "not" can in quarts for applesauce or for jelly. Jelly is really best in half-pints. I actually think several of my "pints" I canned are actually 3/4 pints - 12 ounce jelly jars. I do not measure, I just fill.
One year, I totally screwed up when making my applesauce - the peeler was missing most of the peel, and I thought "what difference does it make?"
I learned that it really does make a BIG difference - applesauce filled with long strings of peel was NOT a hit. Sadly, there is no way of telling which jars were the ones filled with peel without opening them, so it put a big stopper on my giving any as gifts.
I did not can any applesauce or jelly last year, as I was working full time.
I know the world is filled with paragons that can work full time, keep a perfect clean house and still find time to do amazing creative things.
I, however, am not one of those.

Sirens outside.
We used to turn on the scanner when we heard nearby sirens to keep up to date with what problems were going on in the local area - it has proved itself to be very valuable during several local emergencies.
I think when the local scanner went dark, it reinforced my suspicious nature. What trust I did have in the local government, police and politicians went dark with the scrambled scanner.

Checking my cauldron to make sure I am ready for Friday.
The evil weatherliar used the S-word for today.
Supposed to clear up tomorrow, I think, and be clear for the tricksters on Friday. Not going to be warm, but at least clear. Rain on Halloween is a VeryBadThing. The rain is the one thing that basically shuts down trick-or-treating - you can go out in snow, but not in rain. The latest prediction is for 40F on Friday - 40 is not bad but I would much rather see 60 degrees on Halloween!!!
